Super Dollar Authenticator
Currency fraud has been decreasing in Canada for the past few years. In 2010, 54,000 fake dollars were discovered by police. That represented a 20 percent decrease from 2009. However, Canadian financial agencies were still determined to push that amount even lower and turned to a group of scientists to help with their efforts. The new design, set to be put into circulation later this year, contains even more reflective material, as well as holograms and transparent windows. The money is also designed to last two-and-a-half times as long as older bills.
Currency design is constantly challenging counterfeiters to step up their game and create convincing fake bills that go by the eyes of cashiers and tellers unnoticed. For now, it is still possible to make a truly realistic fake. Consequently, the only way to be completely sure about money is to use a device that can quickly verify a dollar bill. The super dollar authenticator is one such device, using watermark, infrared, ultraviolet and magnetic detection.
